Hackney Marshes is a large area of mainly playing fields, disected by the River Lea, which is tidal. The western edge is bordered by the Lee Navigation. At the north end of the marshes lie two sets of Filter Beds, Middlesex and Essex (now Waterworks Nature reserve). There are a number of woodland strips and an area of Woodland (Wick Woodland), plus some areas of rough grassland. There is due to be considerable change to the area owing to Olympic development.
