Ponders End: 2 large dark Scoter sp flew SE calling late afternoon over my garden. I forgot about them, but seeing the Common Scoter report below [Thursday evening] reminded me to check the calls on xeno-canto. The distinctive, low rough calls I heard were new to me & just didn't match the rather high pitched calls of Common Scoter. I then checked Velvet Scoter calls, not expecting them to be totally different & an exact match for my observations. No wing details seen without bins in late afternoon light (A Middleton)
